Jessica Price made this earthy red and green pitcher with what looks like watercolor. It’s got a hand-made, folk-art feel, doesn’t it? I can imagine her at her table, maybe trying to capture a certain kind of pottery. She’s clearly thinking about form and function, but also playing with texture. Those little green dashes almost look mossy. It reminds me of Giorgio Morandi’s still lifes. He’s another painter who keeps coming back to the same kinds of objects, trying to get at something essential. I also love the way she includes studies of details around the pitcher - the handle, the carved birds. It reminds me that artists are always in conversation with each other, remixing and reimagining the world around them. Painting isn’t just about representation; it’s about feeling and thinking and experimenting. It invites us to look closer and ask ourselves, "What does this world mean to me?"
