"Achilles ondergedompeld in de Styx" is an etching by Bernard Baron, a Dutch artist active in the 18th century. This 1724 print depicts the Greek hero Achilles being dipped in the River Styx by his mother Thetis to make him invulnerable, except for his heel. The image, which is framed by pillars with classical figures, shows the mythological scene of Achilles being dipped in the river, with Thetis holding him by the heel. The etching is an example of Baroque art with its dramatic composition and use of light and shadow. The Rijksmuseum houses this detailed and intricate print, measuring 437 mm in height and 339 mm in width.
