Danny Galieote made "This’ll Teach Her To Wear The Same Dress" with oil paint, a material traditionally associated with fine art. Yet, while the technique may be conventional, the artist's chosen subject is anything but. The painting shows a woman from the back wearing a sparkly dress, but she's also holding brass knuckles behind her back. The tension between the woman's refined appearance and the threat of violence is central to this work. Traditionally, the fine arts have held themselves separate from the "lower" crafts and the everyday world. However, Galieote brings them into dialogue. Brass knuckles, often associated with working-class street culture, clash sharply with the glamorous dress and red nail polish, highlighting themes of class, gender, and power dynamics.
