This metal bracelet was made by a Navajo (Diné) artist. Look at how the silversmith made these repeating rectangular forms with a kind of insistent logic! You get the sense that the artist has an idea about building, repetition, and the joy of form. Consider the material itself - that muted silver, and those beautiful turquoise stones. There's a real care in the making, where each little indentation and line feels deliberate. The turquoise stones look like little droplets of water, they really do pop against the cool silver tones! There's an echo of something ancient here, like finding a fragment of a lost civilization, but rendered with a modern sensibility. It reminds me of the work of Art Smith, the 20th century modernist jeweler. When you look at art and jewelry, it becomes an ongoing conversation across generations.
