Where do we draw lines with art of the past and the social politics of today, or are they eternally in conversation? Editor: I find it endlessly compelling how such a quiet, seemingly simple painting sparks so many questions about representation. A work of art is often an entryway, a prompt to reflect on societal mores...and our personal response as well. Curator: Exactly, art holds that mirror up and the view back can be illuminating... Editor: Or maybe, it's a just a great painting!
