Curatorial notes
Editor: Here we have an untitled photograph by Jack Gould of a car garage. I’m immediately struck by the eeriness of the negative image. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Eerie is right! The inverted tones create this sort of ghost world of vintage cars, all lined up like spectral soldiers. It's like a memory fading away, a nostalgic postcard from an automotive past. Does the starkness give you a sense of unease, too? Editor: Definitely, it makes me think about how photography can capture more than just an image. Curator: Exactly! It’s like Gould is asking us to look beyond the surface and ponder the passage of time, the weight of industry. A fascinating snapshot, wouldn't you agree?
