Martin Partyka created this wall decoration, using watercolor, graphite, and gouache. The artwork features stylized floral motifs, symbols of life, renewal, and beauty, that stretch back to ancient civilizations. Notice the floral garland, a decorative element that can be traced back to classical antiquity. In ancient Greece and Rome, garlands were used in celebrations, religious rituals, and as symbols of honor. You can find it again during the Renaissance where it symbolized festivity and abundance. Here, the flowers also evoke the fleeting nature of life, a reminder of mortality. Consider how cultural memory imprints these symbols on our subconscious, and how they continue to engage us on an emotional level. These floral motifs, passed down through history, now resurface, evolving, and taking on new meanings in our modern world.
