Rudy Pozzatti made this small etching called "Forum" sometime around 1962, capturing a slice of Roman history with incredible lightness and energy. The sepia lines dance across the paper, barely containing the monument. I can almost see Pozzatti, squinting in the Italian sun, rapidly sketching to capture the monumentality. You know, the way the pen just flies across the plate, figuring things out as it goes, like Cy Twombly in Rome. There's a sense of immediacy. The etching lines feel so alive, like tiny vibrating strings holding up this ancient structure. The composition reminds me of a snapshot: the tree on the left, the arch, cropped just so. Pozzatti, like the best artists, isn't just showing us a thing; he's sharing a way of seeing. It's all connected. We carry on the same conversation, each adding our own little marks and scribbles.
