Editor: This is Lester Cole's "Untitled (three contact strips: Cuban revolutionaries and University in Havana)," a series of photographs. The filmstrips show different scenes from Cuba, and it makes me think about how photography can be a means of documenting social change. What catches your eye? Curator: The contact strips reveal the artist's process, the raw materiality of image-making. They demonstrate the means of photographic production and consumption. Consider the labor involved in capturing these moments and developing them. Editor: That's interesting, I didn't consider the labor behind the photo. Curator: Precisely! The strips challenge the traditional art world and instead focus on the production and the process. So, what did you learn? Editor: I never thought about the film strips as a medium that documented labor.
