This is a black and white photograph of William T. "Red" Hanrahan, a baseball player for the Minneapolis team, from the Old Judge series of trading cards. The card was created in 1888 by the artist Goodwin & Company as an advertisement for Old Judge Cigarettes. The card depicts Hanrahan in a baseball uniform, poised to catch a ball, in a field. This piece, now part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection, is an example of an early form of sports marketing and advertising.
