Ursula Schulz-Dornburg made this photograph titled, Esteban de Viguera, August 18, 1992, 9:05 - 11:05 a.m. It’s a dance of light and dark, isn't it? A single beam piercing through what seems like an ancient, forgotten space. The texture in this print is amazing, the way the light catches on the grainy walls, almost like you could reach out and touch the history embedded in them. That stark contrast, that single moment of illumination... it's like a spotlight on something sacred, or maybe something lost. You know? I remember when I was at art school. I took a photography class, and I always got so hung up on getting the perfect shot, the perfect light. But this, this is about something else entirely. It's about time, about decay, about the way light can transform a space. It makes me think of Agnes Martin, her subtle grids, and her use of light.
