This untitled print was made by Franz Hitzler. It's a dense, dark etching, full of frantic lines that create a world that feels both chaotic and deeply personal. Look at how Hitzler uses line – it’s all scratchy and urgent, like he’s trying to capture something fleeting or maybe even a bit disturbing. There's a figure in the middle, maybe human, maybe not, obscured by these thick, dark lines. Notice the dark marks cutting diagonally across the image. They create a sense of unease, as if something is being hidden or restrained. It feels a bit like a dream, where things are just out of reach and slightly distorted. Hitzler's work reminds me a bit of Käthe Kollwitz, in the way he uses etching to explore themes of suffering and the human condition. But Hitzler has his own unique vision, one that embraces the messy, the unresolved, and the deeply strange. He reminds us that art doesn't always have to be pretty. Sometimes, it can be a raw, honest expression of our inner turmoil.
