In this painting, Picasso has created a still life with a fishing net using oil on canvas. The earthy browns and greens, punctuated by blues and creams, feel grounded and real, yet the forms are broken and reassembled. I love how the fishing net drapes over the scene, a web of thin yellow lines, meticulously painted. Each line feels deliberate, yet the overall effect is light, almost airy. Look how this contrasts with the solid blocks of color used for the fruit and tabletop. This tension between the linear and the solid, the transparent and the opaque, is what makes the painting so dynamic. It’s as if Picasso is showing us the world through multiple lenses, all at once. There’s a conversation happening here between representation and abstraction. Like with Cezanne, or maybe Braque, Picasso isn't trying to fool us into thinking this is a real still life. Instead, he's inviting us to participate in the act of seeing, of piecing together our own understanding of reality.
