Tadeusz Makowski made this painting of a small mountain town with oil on canvas. You know, looking at this piece, it feels like Makowski wasn't just painting a scene; he was more interested in painting a feeling. The way he's layered those strokes, thick and visible, gives everything this restless energy. It's like the town itself is breathing. The colors, mostly muted oranges and browns, with these surprising pops of teal blue, they add to the mood. The blue mountain looming over the town feels both protective and a little ominous. And there’s this one area, right in the foreground, where the paint is almost sculptural. It’s rough, textured, like the earth itself. It reminds me of some of Soutine’s landscapes. He lets the paint be what it is, messy and real. For me, that's what art should be about: not just showing what's there, but capturing how it feels to be there.
