Curator: Anneliese Hager's "White Shadows"... it's a small book, a little over 10 by 17 inches when open. It's so evocative. What do you see when you first look at it? Editor: Chaos, almost. But a beautiful, controlled chaos. It's like peering into someone's subconscious, a swirl of anxieties and dreams fighting for space. Curator: Exactly! And the title, in German, "Weiße Schatten," plays with that duality. Shadows that are white, absences that are somehow present. It challenges the very notion of absence. Editor: This work definitely speaks to the unspeakable. It makes me wonder if the artist aimed to capture the feeling of marginalization felt by those whose stories are suppressed or erased. Curator: Perhaps. It also makes me think of Rorschach tests. We bring our own interpretations, our own histories, to those shadows. Editor: Right, it demands that we confront our own biases and assumptions, forcing us to actively engage with its ambiguity. Curator: It's a mirror, in a way. And a hauntingly beautiful one at that. Editor: Definitely a reminder that silence, too, can be a powerful statement.
