Corita Kent made this print, "The Beginning of Miracles: I," and, wow, it feels like a stage set for a play that’s about to begin, doesn't it? The off-white color pulls you into a world of quiet observation. I imagine Kent in her studio, maybe experimenting with different tools to create these marks, each line a decision, a breath. Look at how she’s handled the ground—it’s like a deconstructed grid, pulling apart just enough to keep it interesting. And those vertical lines? They could be curtains, or maybe rain. I bet she wanted us to feel the push and pull between representation and abstraction. It is so human, isn't it, this desire to make sense and also to let go? Kent’s work always makes me think about the conversations artists have across time. There’s something in this piece that echoes Matisse's interiors. It's all about the joy of seeing and making, how one mark leads to another, each a small miracle.
