"Dronning Semiramis som sværger ikke at ville rede sit hår før hun har underkuet et oprør" (Queen Semiramis swears not to comb her hair until she has suppressed the rebellion), painted by Danish artist Peder Als between 1757 and 1759, depicts the legendary Assyrian queen Semiramis. The scene shows Semiramis seated with a servant tending her hair, while a messenger delivers news of an uprising. With a determined expression, Semiramis vows to not attend to her appearance until she has restored order to her kingdom, showcasing her strength and dedication to her people. This historical subject matter, rendered in a refined Rococo style, was popular among Danish artists of the 18th century. The painting is currently on display at SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst.
