Marie Famularo made this drawing of an infant's cap using graphite on paper. Just imagine the slow build-up of tone and texture. It makes me think about the care and attention Marie must have put into this piece. What was she thinking when she rendered each tiny stitch and delicate fold? Maybe she was reflecting on childhood, or the tenderness and vulnerability of new life. The soft grays give the image a gentle, dreamlike quality, like a memory fading at the edges. You know, it's not trying to be a photo. The fine lines and intricate patterns remind me of the work of other artists who find beauty in the everyday, like some of Agnes Martin's quieter drawings. But Famularo brings her own sensibility to the subject, finding poetry in the ordinary. Ultimately, this drawing is an invitation to slow down and appreciate the small, often overlooked moments and objects that give meaning to our lives. It’s about taking time to be present.
