Curator: Right now, we are looking at an "Untitled" mixed-media work by Mahmoud Farshchian. It feels to me as if it is heavily influenced by the aesthetics and motifs of Persian miniatures, brimming with elements of narrative and figuration. Editor: Oh, my! This feels like stepping into a dream, doesn't it? All flowing lines and vibrant colours, creating a world where the real and the imagined melt together like honey. Is that a tiger, gently nudging the sleeve of the figure below? It feels both serene and wild. Curator: Absolutely. If we think about the processes and materials at play, it is an exciting exploration. There's a sense of incredible patience evident here. This meticulousness extends beyond just the image itself, reflecting perhaps a larger cultural value assigned to artistry. Editor: The colour palette is breathtaking too, these pastel and golden washes seem to exist within some forgotten era, while the women's ethereal expressions and the almost symbiotic relationship with the animals…It is telling me of peace, of ancient pacts with nature... Like echoes from myths of old. Do you sense that? Curator: It certainly speaks to Farshchian’s command over material and form. Considering the lack of a precise date, the context around the materials themselves, how they were sourced and handled, really opens questions. Editor: Indeed. Ultimately, the narrative feels secondary to the experience of just basking in this imagined space. I would love to sit in a room like this, to write a song in a space such as this, letting time melt... Curator: It is difficult not to get drawn into it. Studying works such as these reminds me of the power objects have to create worlds, each carrying stories embedded within them. Editor: Absolutely, I feel enriched having travelled for a while in this colourful and magical dreamland. It makes me appreciate the invisible threads linking art, myth and reality.
