Editor: So, here we have Pierre Audouin's portrait of Madame Boulanger. It's an engraving, capturing a serene, almost wistful, expression. What do you make of it? Curator: Isn't she captivating? Her gaze seems to hold a secret, doesn't it? This was a time of immense social change, a world turned upside down. Do you think her placid expression is simply a façade? Editor: Perhaps! I hadn't considered the social upheaval of the time. Curator: These portraits often told a story, sometimes true, sometimes aspirational. Perhaps Madame Boulanger sought to project an image of stability amidst chaos. What do you think about that hat? Editor: It does make her look kind of rebellious. Curator: Exactly! And the details in her dress are amazing. It's this push-and-pull between defiance and decorum that I find so compelling. I keep looking, and seeing something new. Editor: I see what you mean! There's definitely more than meets the eye. Thanks for pointing that out!
