It feels somehow both detached and intimate. The composition—the almost too-perfect, centered garage—it’s so still, so quiet. I can imagine Wessel, standing there, waiting, watching the light shift ever so slightly. What was he thinking about when he pressed the shutter? Was he thinking about scale and distance? I wonder if he had been thinking about the way the cracks in the driveway mirror those telephone wires running above. Or if it was some kind of accident. Painters think about this kind of thing all the time, so it's nice to see photographers doing it too. Maybe that’s what all artists do, in their own way: they observe, notice, and bring their own unique vision to the world. By looking at Wessel's picture, maybe we can see a bit differently too.
