Rosalia Lane made this drawing of a fan, we don't know when, or with what, but looking at it, you can see how the whole thing is built up bit by bit, like a puzzle. The drawing shows a possible design for a fan, or maybe it's a copy of a fan? Either way, the details are incredible: you've got these tiny figures, trees, and patterns all crammed together in a semi-circle. Then there's this other drawing right above it, which looks like another version of the fan’s design, maybe a simpler one. It makes you wonder about all the work and care that goes into making something like a fan, something that's meant to be pretty and delicate. It reminds me a little of the work of Paul Klee - he was also interested in playful and decorative design. It leaves you thinking about how art and design mix, and how much beauty can be found in the smallest of things.
