Xul Solar's 'Palacio Almi' presents a city of upright rectangles, a forest of symbols reaching for the heavens. These shapes, like totems, might remind us of ancient city-states, evoking the ziggurats of Mesopotamia, where each level aspired to divine connection. Notice the serpent, a primal emblem, slithering through this urban landscape. The serpent—an ancient symbol of healing and knowledge—appears as a figure in the story of Genesis and as Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity, in Mesoamerican cultures. It embodies both life's temptations and transformative power. Above, celestial bodies hang suspended. The moon, often associated with cycles of change and the subconscious, watches over this scene. These are the eternal witnesses of our human drama, their light casting shadows of the collective past, resurfacing in dreams and artistic visions. These symbols speak to the enduring human quest for meaning, a quest as old as time itself.
