Editor: This is Jack Gould's "Untitled (man waving from back of train; seen from below)," a photographic print. The reversed tones create such a strange, almost dreamlike feeling. What symbols do you see in this work? Curator: The waving figure immediately speaks of farewell, but seen from below, almost heroically, perhaps hints at departure and return as a cycle. The train itself, a potent symbol of progress and connection, is a transitional space. Does this departure resonate with any particular memory or cultural narrative for you? Editor: I guess it makes me think about leaving home, that ambivalent feeling of sadness and excitement. Thanks, that was really helpful. Curator: Indeed. The image leaves us pondering the weight of farewells and the hope inherent in journeys.
