Wilhelm Kuhnert captured this intimate scene of lions at play, sometime before 1926. Kuhnert, a German artist, was known for his detailed paintings of animals, often set in African landscapes. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there was a surge of European interest in Africa, fueled by colonialism and exploration. Kuhnert was among those who traveled to the continent, seeking to document its wildlife. These images played a significant role in shaping European perceptions of Africa.
