Editor: Here we have an anonymous engraving of the Seventy-Ninth Regiment, the Highlanders of the New York State Militia. The detail is amazing! What I find really striking is the sea of faces, all those men in kilts marching. What do you see in this piece? Curator: What I see is a dance between tradition and modernity. Look at the kilts – a clear nod to Scottish heritage – juxtaposed with what is likely the American Civil War era. It makes me wonder about identity, loyalty, and how people reconcile their past with the present. What do you think? Editor: That's a great point about tradition. I guess I was so focused on the visual of the parade, I missed that. Curator: Art often whispers its secrets. Keep looking, keep questioning, and it will always have something new to say.
