This Untitled painting was made by Alexander Calder, and it feels like a spontaneous burst of energy. The canvas is split between a vibrant yellow and a shadowy black, immediately setting up a dialogue between light and dark, maybe a bit like life and death. There's this figure on the right, stark white against the black, almost skeletal, yet weirdly animated. The white paint looks so thinly applied, it's practically bone. I can imagine Calder, in the moment, urgently trying to capture something ephemeral. On the left, shapes in red and yellow float, kind of like speech bubbles, adding to the dreamlike quality. I feel a connection between this work and Joan Miró's playful abstraction; a kind of shared visual language. And you see how everything is simplified to its essence? It’s almost like Calder is saying, "Here's what it boils down to." It is as if he made his sculptures dance on paper. I think every artist has a unique perspective to share, an ongoing exchange of ideas across time and space!
