Curator: Precisely. Think about who historically occupied such towers. This wasn’t a space accessible to the common person. By showing its decay, and positioning working-class figures in the foreground, van Liender subtly questions the enduring legacy, or lack thereof, of privileged social strata. What do you notice about the light in this composition? Editor: It seems to be fading or filtering through. Curator: Exactly! It’s not harsh or revealing. This soft light seems to gently veil the scene, softening the stark reality of the ruin. Consider the role of nature here too, how it reclaims and softens the structures of man. It points towards ideas related to class and power dynamics prevalent at that time, wouldn’t you agree? Editor: That's an interesting way to look at it.
