This is a piece called Espaço Vibratório, or Vibratory Space, by Eduardo Nery. It's all about how the eye jumps around, isn’t it? The piece is a photographic print of an interior space disrupted with lines. It's a dance between the architectural bones and the lines that feel like they’re vibrating off of it. Those white lines cutting across the dark room are just electric, like the room is about to explode! You can see the sharp contrast between dark and light that gives the image a real jolt. There’s something about the way those lines are placed, they almost seem to be coming from a central vanishing point, like an abstract road. It reminds me a little bit of some of the Italian futurists, like Boccioni, and the way they captured movement and speed in their paintings. Ultimately, the beauty of a work like this lies in its capacity to keep our perception fluid, and in motion.
