Editor: This is Frederick Landseer Maur Griggs's "Sellenger," an etching. It feels very detailed and also a little melancholic. What stands out to you in this piece? Curator: I see a potent commentary on the changing landscape. Griggs, like many of his generation, was deeply concerned with the rapid industrialization and its impact on traditional rural life. Editor: How so? Curator: Notice the decaying building alongside the grander architecture. Is this perhaps a symbol of resilience in the face of progress, or a lament for what's being lost? What do you think? Editor: That gives me a lot to think about. I'll have to consider the symbolism. Curator: Exactly! Art invites us to question, to reflect, and to see the world through a different lens.
