Edward McCartan made Isoult, this beautiful sculpture, out of bronze. It’s clear that he was really thinking about the process, about how light would play on the surface, making the metal almost seem alive. Look at the texture – it’s so smooth and polished, reflecting light in a way that softens the edges. The way the deer stretches up towards Isoult’s hand, there's this subtle tension, a delicate connection. And notice how her fingers are gently curved, barely touching the deer, it’s like she’s trying not to startle it. The details are incredible, from the way her hair is styled, to the folds in her skin. McCartan's work reminds me a bit of Rodin, especially in the way he captures movement and emotion in bronze. But there's also something uniquely McCartan here, a kind of quiet grace. In the end, art is about seeing the world in new ways, and McCartan certainly invites us to do just that.
