Pablo Rey made Estados complementarios #X09, it’s a small watercolor piece on paper, and the marks are so simple – just lines. The way Rey uses color is really interesting. It’s not about blending or shading, but about putting different colors next to each other, like in a rainbow, only subtly. Each line has its own life, its own little wobble, and together they create this gentle rhythm, almost like a musical score. Look closely, and you can see where the brush was wetter, where it was drier. It’s like the painting is breathing. There’s this one spot, where the red lines meet the yellow, and they kind of vibrate against each other, it gives the piece such a unique tension. You know, Agnes Martin comes to mind. Both artists share that love for simple forms and quiet repetition. But while Martin’s work is all about control and precision, Rey’s feels more organic, more human. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t always have to shout to be heard.
