Fabio Mauroner made this etching of Trattoria "La Vida" at Campo San Giacomo dall'Orio using black ink and a plate to transfer the design onto paper. I'm trying to imagine being Mauroner, wandering around Venice. I feel like he’s trying to capture the essence of a fleeting moment, a snapshot of daily life in Venice, with people gathered outside the trattoria. I imagine he was drawn to the play of light and shadow on the buildings. The composition is interesting, with the branches framing the scene and adding a sense of depth. The details in the architecture are impressive, but the overall effect is soft and dreamlike, not really hard-edged. It's clear that Mauroner was influenced by other printmakers and painters of his time, who were also exploring similar themes and techniques. Artists are always inspired by one another’s creativity, in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas. It's exciting!
