I'm trying to imagine being Mauroner, wandering around Venice. I feel like he’s trying to capture the essence of a fleeting moment, a snapshot of daily life in Venice, with people gathered outside the trattoria. I imagine he was drawn to the play of light and shadow on the buildings. The composition is interesting, with the branches framing the scene and adding a sense of depth. The details in the architecture are impressive, but the overall effect is soft and dreamlike, not really hard-edged. It's clear that Mauroner was influenced by other printmakers and painters of his time, who were also exploring similar themes and techniques.
