This Rain Cover was made by an anonymous artist, and it just breathes color and pattern. Imagine the maker at their loom, working carefully to bring this textile into being, shifting colors emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I'm so drawn to the rhythm of this piece, the bands of red and blue juxtaposed with the intricate, diamond patterned weaving in yellow and white. I can almost feel the texture, the give of the fabric, the weight of it in my hands. Look at the way the different bands of color sit next to one another, the maker was really thinking about color relationships. What were they thinking? The artist had a practical intention, but in its creation, a beautiful object emerged. It reminds me of the work of other textile artists who are in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time. Creating work that embodies expression and invites interpretation, allowing for multiple readings.
