Georgi Kovachev made this Untitled painting with oil paint and a real sense of play. Look how he’s built up the paint, not trying to hide the process but letting it all hang out, drips and all. The textures are so inviting. I love how the dark blue mass dominates the center, but then your eye starts darting around, finding little juicy moments of color and unexpected marks. See those orange stripes near the bottom? They cut right through the blue, adding a little zing, a bit of rebellion, like a punk rock moment in an otherwise chill landscape. Kovachev reminds me a bit of Milton Avery, that same joy in color and form, and how he seemed to make it up as he went along. It’s not about perfection, but about the journey of seeing and feeling. Kovachev leaves space for us to bring our own stories and interpretations to the canvas.
