Anne Ger made this "Shaker Tall Tin Cupboard" sometime in the 20th century using graphite and colored pencil. It's giving me major de ja vu, like a memory of a cupboard I once saw in a dream. Anne Ger, born in 1855, had to be one of those artists who just knew how to make you feel something. I can imagine her, totally absorbed, pencil in hand, trying to capture the essence of this object. The simplicity of the lines and the warmth of the color palette are just mesmerizing. It's like she’s not just drawing a cupboard, but all the feelings of domesticity and tradition, like the ghost of a Shaker carpenter whispering, "less is more." It reminds me of the work of Agnes Martin, who also found so much depth and emotion in the simplest of forms. It’s that ongoing conversation among artists, reaching across time and space, inspiring each other to see the world in new ways. It's more than just a cupboard; it's a whole mood.
