Anne Ger made this drawing of a Shaker Tall Tin Cupboard sometime in the 20th century, and it's all about observation and care, wouldn't you say? I love how the color quietly insists on the cupboard’s presence. Look at how she lets the surface of the paper do so much work. It's not about hiding the process, it’s about revealing it. You can see the hand of the artist in the delicate rendering of the wood grain, the subtle shadows that give the cupboard its form. There's a sense of calm, almost meditative attention to detail. It reminds me a little of Agnes Martin's work; that same quiet dedication to simple forms. Both artists share an interest in the beauty of everyday objects, and it's a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places.
