Editor: This is William Henry Hunt's "Head of an Old Man." It's a small drawing, about 12 by 9 centimeters, and rendered in muted colors. It feels...intimate. What draws your eye to this piece? Curator: The gaze, definitely. It’s averted, inward, perhaps a little melancholic. Hunt captures such a subtle sense of lived experience. And the rapid strokes around the head make me wonder what thoughts are swirling around in there, you know? Editor: I hadn't thought about the strokes that way! Curator: Yes, it almost feels like he's giving us permission to imagine this man’s inner world. What do you make of the limited color palette? Editor: It brings a certain quietness. I guess I see now that that quietness encourages reflection. Curator: Exactly. It is an invitation to connect.
