This is Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi’s design for a jewel-encrusted book binding. Its washes of pink and blue, combined with gold and strategic placement of green jewels, evoke a sense of opulence. The design is structured around a central icon of the Madonna and Child, enclosed in an oval frame, that divides the composition into four quadrants. Each of these quadrants is marked with a prominent ‘M’ monogram. This symmetrical layout is then overlaid with a dense filigree of gold, blue, and green embellishments which creates a rich decorative effect.
