Kalamian Walton made this drawing of silver spoons, with what looks like pen and ink, sometime between 1855 and 1995. Look at how these simple lines construct our seeing! The spoons float on the page, each distinct in its design. The lines are so clear, almost diagrammatic, yet there’s a handmade quality that keeps them from feeling cold. It's kind of a dance between precision and looseness. Check out the middle spoon - you can see "ABC" inscribed on it. Notice how the letters aren't perfectly aligned? It gives the spoon such character, like it has a story. This drawing makes me think about the everyday objects we take for granted. Walton asks us to really *see* them, to appreciate the craftsmanship and the little details that make each one unique. It’s a bit like the drawings of Giorgio Morandi, who spent his life painting the same bottles over and over. It’s about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
