Gennady Mironov made this dreamy, untitled seascape, and the way he’s worked with oil on canvas makes you want to dive right in. Look how the colours in the sky reflect in the water, creating this all-enveloping atmosphere. It’s the kind of painting that makes you consider how colours work, and how the act of painting itself is like trying to capture a feeling, a memory, or a moment. Take a look at the beach on the right side of the painting. The texture of the sand is so palpable that you can almost feel it between your toes. And the way he suggests depth with these soft, blurry edges? It’s like he’s inviting you to get lost in the landscape. Mironov reminds me of someone like Fairfield Porter, who also had this knack for making the ordinary feel extraordinary, like a conversation between friends that you wish would never end.
