This Linnenkast with gebogen zijwanden (linen cupboard with curved side walls) was made by Piet L. Kramer. Those curves! Look at the sides of this cupboard, all made of light oak. Doesn't it just hug the space around it? I imagine Kramer, carefully selecting each piece of wood, maybe running his hands over the grain, feeling its texture. I wonder if he knew where the wood came from? Did he think about that tree growing in the forest? The wood is mostly unadorned except for the dark triangles which add a little graphic punch to the shape, like exclamation marks. You know, making furniture is kind of like painting. It's about shaping space, playing with form, and creating something that has its own presence in the world. Kramer’s cupboard stands firm but it also bows outward slightly to greet the world. It's like he's saying, "Hey, come on in. Let's fill this space with something beautiful."
