Xul Solar made this watercolour, Tú y Yo, sometime, well, nobody seems to know when exactly. It’s kinda cool how Solar uses watercolour here to create these soft, dreamlike figures. Look closely, and you can see how the colours blend and bleed into each other, making everything feel like it’s in constant motion. Watercolour can be tricky, you know, it has a mind of its own, and I bet Solar liked that element of surprise. The way he layers the colours makes the figures almost translucent. Check out the hands reaching out to each other - or away from the snake - they’re like these transparent planes, and the warm colours pull you in, even though there’s something unsettling about the image overall. It's reminiscent of Paul Klee's playful abstraction, maybe Solar was trying to capture that sense of freedom and experimentation. Ultimately, it’s a reminder that art’s about asking questions, not giving answers.
