Absalon's 'Cell No. 6 (Prototype)' is a kind of shelter, a proposal for a way of living. I feel a deep curiosity about the process, the way that forms can be thought of as built or constructed. Its cool, pale surface and simple, geometric structure, with the small window and slot-like opening, give the piece a detached, almost alien presence. The color and texture are muted. It does not reveal its secrets easily. The surface is flat and opaque, like a mask. It puts me in mind of Gordon Matta-Clark, who made cuts in buildings to reveal other ways of seeing space, and who thought of architecture as something that can be disrupted and altered. Absalon’s work is about creating a space for new possibilities and alternative ways of being. Ultimately, what stays with me is the feeling that art is not just about objects. It’s about ideas, questions, and the process of thinking.
