Here's the audio guide script: This photograph of a house with a large veranda and garden on the island of Madura was taken by Frits Freerks Fontein Fz. Imagine the light, the heat, and the scent of the island air as Fontein framed this scene. I bet he stopped and looked carefully, trying to capture not just the house, but the feeling of home, of place. He probably had to adjust the camera, wait for the right moment when the light was just so, glancing around and taking it all in. I wonder what he was thinking as he framed this shot. Did he know the people who lived there? Did he imagine himself sitting on that porch? I can almost feel myself standing there next to him, also imagining what it might be like to sit and have tea on that porch. Photography is about freezing a moment, but it's also about memory and dreaming. It’s like when you see a painting by Bonnard, and suddenly you remember a room you once sat in, or someone you once knew and everything suddenly seems a bit hazy. Artists are always teaching each other how to look, how to remember.
