Luis Álvarez Roure made this painting called 'Autumn' with oil on canvas. I love how the marks here are so free, so expressive. There's no hiding the hand of the artist. It's right there in the brushstrokes, in the way the colors blend and bleed into each other. Up close, you can see the texture of the paint, thick in some places, thin and transparent in others. Look at the way the orange cloth drapes around the figure. It's not just a color; it's a physical presence, almost like you could reach out and feel the fabric. And notice the little touches of green and blue peeking through, adding depth and complexity to the composition. It all feels very deliberate, but also spontaneous. This piece reminds me of some of the early work by Joan Mitchell, where the figure dissolves into a landscape of color and gesture. Both artists share an interest in the emotional power of paint.
