Boris Kustodiev made "The Harvest" with oil on canvas. I'm picturing him outside with his easel, the sun beating down, trying to capture that golden light. The whole scene glows with warmth, doesn't it? Look at the way he builds up the sky with these horizontal strokes, like bands of color stacked on top of each other. The edges are soft, almost fuzzy, creating this dreamy, hazy effect. The palette is pure joy - it's like someone mixed honey, tangerines and butter. I bet Kustodiev was thinking about the cycle of life, the bounty of the earth, and the hard work of these women. There is a feeling of thankfulness in the air, like nature is offering her gifts, generous as she is. Other artists like Van Gogh tried to capture a similar sense of rural life. Maybe they were all on the same wavelength. Ultimately, for an artist, nothing is more important than talking to other artists.
