Charles Capps made this etching, "Quietude," and right away, I notice how he’s thinking about light, how it touches the adobe and the stones, like he's feeling his way through the scene. The texture here is all about those tiny, intentional lines, built up to give a sense of depth and weight. Look closely at the wall, those little cubes casting shadows, each one a decision, a mark of time and place. It feels solid, real. It makes me think about how Capps built this image layer by layer, each pass with the needle shaping the final feel. And that sky! It’s not just there for show; it’s pressing down, adding to the stillness, that sense of ‘quietude.’ Like a Hopper painting, but made of whispers. It reminds me a little of Whistler, with its muted tones and emphasis on atmosphere. Art is just one big conversation anyway, isn’t it?
