"Jozef verkocht aan de Ismaëlieten / Jakob is bedroefd bij het zien van de mantel van Jozef," is a pair of etchings by Hans Janssen from 1615-1651 depicting scenes from the biblical story of Joseph. The left etching shows Joseph being sold to the Ishmaelites, while the right etching shows Jacob grieving over Joseph's coat. This small artwork, measuring just 51 mm by 35 mm, is a powerful example of Janssen's skill as a printmaker, capturing the drama and emotion of the biblical story in vivid detail. This work is part of a larger series illustrating the book of Genesis, and it's currently in the collection of the Rijksmuseum. This small but poignant series is a testament to the power of art to convey complex narratives.
