Here's the Todd Walker artwork, captured in a photograph by Mike Mandel. Look at the tonal range! I imagine Mandel wandering around, just him, his camera, and Todd. There's a real casualness about the image, right? The photo looks as though it was grabbed on the fly. The backdrop of the stadium seating adds this epic feel, yet the foreground is very down to earth, centered around Todd and his bat. The lighting emphasizes the texture of the stadium seating behind him. What's in the shadows and what's not? There is a sense of spontaneity to the image, as if the artist wanted to capture a particular fleeting moment. It's like when you are painting, and you want to save the gesture, but you also want to layer it with something else. That impulse of the artist is something that continues through time, artists looking and learning from one another.
