Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this painting, Poachers, using oil on canvas. The colours! They're like a dream, all greens and reds melting into each other. You can almost feel the dampness of the forest. Look at how he's handled the paint, it’s like he’s building up layers of feeling, not just depicting a scene. It's loose, see? Like he's letting the paint do its thing, a real process-oriented approach to art making. The red of the poacher's jacket cuts through all that green, doesn't it? It's like a jolt, a reminder of the human presence in this wild place. The brushstrokes are thick and juicy here, almost sculptural. It reminds me a bit of late Cezanne, how he built up form with colour. Except Weisz-Kubínčan’s got this raw, almost desperate energy to it. Art's never about fixed meanings, it's always an invitation to see things a little differently, to feel something new.
